Supplier's Invoice Value: £71.53This is what I get for buying clothes from overseas, with shipping and customs to the UK more than doubling the cost of my order. It's worth it to get cool clothes that I like, but I can now understand why you Gothic Lolita girls always pout in your photos!
Freight Value: £46.71
---------------------------------
Customs Duty Payable: £14.18
VAT: £24.43
Administration Fee: £01.25
---------------------------------
RAPE TIME: £39.86
- Customs suckage!

Don't pay it, read the small print on the back... ensure that the Freight Value is that of the postage... that value looks like their default amount.
It's something I spotted the other day, and I have had most of my VAT costs refunded.
They claim they "can't find the postage cost" so will default it to something around the £46 mark. They then charge the VAT on that, rather than the postage amount.
Example, I ordered a packet from Japan, it was a letter... the cost of the letter was listed as 50p, and the postage was about £1.50, listed on the side... DHL in this case, "could not find the postage" on the packet... (even though it was listed in the "POSTAGE" box), they then gave it the default £46 value, and I was charged a total of about £20 in "customs".
Once I complained, they cancelled the whole thing saying it wasn't worth collecting the money if the value came to £2.

I've had that.
I think it was Lip Service. I bought £50 of clothes, but the postie made me give him a cheque for £55 for tax before he''d let me have it!!!

i just had a problem like this too. i'd ordered a print from an online store in the states for 80$ then the shipping was 35$ and i cringed but decided it was okay. When it got here, customs and taxes came to an extra 50€ !!! because the people had sent it in such a way that customs officials thought i had bought it to resell it in europe. so i had to send it back. i'm hoping they can send it again marked as a "Gift" then i won't have to pay extra at all (so they say) :p
shopping on the net is great... but risky to not know when it gets here if you'll be charged extra. and seems like it's always quite a lot extra at that.

I think the best thing to do is assume you'll get charged (I kinda expected this) and take it into consideration. It pretty much brings the price back to UK cost anyway, haha, so that's okay.
Heh, I'm surprised the admin fee is so LOW!! Bastardforce have charged me £13.50 in the past.
Yeah, Bastardforce are crazy for admin fees, and don't even deliver it! (This came as a letter after delivery).
jesus christ o_0;;; I don't think even Gothloli girls have to face that many taxes ><;
shame having good taste (i.e not chav xD) means expensive clothes >o

EGL stuff faces far worse taxes than this. My clothes are much cheaper than designer dresses! ^_^
Am very curious to see the clothes! And nervous about the new model PS2 I may order from Japan getting slapped for hefty customs duty. :|
I found out that as long as I don't order more than 50$, I don't get taxed (learn the hard way)
and while halloween is over, I'm sorry to say that this thread inspired this XD
