Cover your ears! It's music time again!

I bought 'The Sims 3' on a whim, because I've never played a Sims game before. I don't really seem to be enjoying it too much so far. I'm really bad at it and the user interface is a little more complex than I was expecting. It's pretty obvious that I haven't played a PC game in a long long time :)

I took a day off work recently, which has been a lot of fun. I managed to think of some new ideas and take some time to relax. I also recently made some new music. Please let me know what you think! Constructive criticism would be appreciated!

synthvoicetest
A bouncy partial melody, trying out integrating some voices into my music. :)

tumblejune
This music is something I made for use in Tumbledrop. It is presently unfinished, but I'm pretty pleased with how it sounds in general.

tumblebeats01
This is an unfinished tumbledrop piece. I think I probably went a bit too heavy on the drum beats, but otherwise I like the melody. I might see if I can ressurect this.

(1.7mb, 1:52 long)

I just finished a full length music track for the first time, after starting it this afternoon. It's 1:52 long, and whilst I'm sure there are areas that could be improved, I'm fairly pleased with how it came out. I would still appreciate feedback on this piece, and I hope to start making music more often.

Warning: contains synth music! Hehe.

new year + musak

Had a fun new-year's evening with many thanks to [info]toothycat. It was an impressive evening filled with booze and desserts!

- ♫ plonky.mp3

Another 'half-track' unfinished bit of music. I should probably get some more confidence and try to put together a full length track at some stage, but I still don't really feel like I know what I'm doing. If only getting feedback for music was as straightforward as it is for illustration.

I'm really enjoying having a keyboard for inputting music. It's amazing what a difference the pressure sensitivity makes. I love the fact that I can noodle on it at any point and it will play, because it's the only MIDI input I have. I also received a 'piano chord dictionary' which is a great help.

Yesterday I went out and bought 'Music composition for dummies', and I'm tempted to pick up 'Music theory for dummies' to go with it. I realise I have a loooong way to go with this music stuff, and I'm in no particular hurry, but I need to pay attention to the basics if I'm going to get anywhere with it.

♫ decjingle1.mp3
A namco style jingle. Not great, but there it is. A bit grating, come to think of it. ^^;;

♪ decsongbit.mp3
The timing on the flute for this piece is pretty bad, and I didn't really know where I was going with it.

♫ headyroll.mp3
This one is much more complete, although still not anywhere close to being a completed track. I worked closely with the beats with this piece, and I spent a fair amount of time rejigging it to work nicely, rather than being a slave to the melody.

Feedback would definitely be appreciated, especially if you can spot any places that I could improve. These are all work in progress, and I really value input from people whom take the time to listen to them.

Boxing day laziness :)

Christmas was great! The gift I received from <lj user="soundslikebuuu" was this amazing Roland Edirol PCR-M1 midi keyboard! :D It plugs directly into either my laptop or mac, and it allows me to input music into Garageband. It makes it much more comfortable to compose music, and the pressure sensitivity makes a massive difference to the feel of the music. I still have a lot to learn with regards to making music, but I'm delghted to have a really nice keyboard to work with, yet doesn't take up my entire desk! So, speaking of which, I'm going to see if I can put together a song. :)

Music stuffs - funky sunday

Dabbling a little with music this morning. This is only partially done, as I'm somewhat stuck as where to go with it. The main problem I had with this is that my intended bassline (the bit at the very beginning) turned out to be too intrusive to put a melody over... fission mailed! D: I don't like the guitar bit in this track. I was trying for something vaguely Pillows-esque with the bit at the end, but it doesn't flow very well.

Oh yeah, this is done using GarageBand.

♫♪ funkysunday.mp3 - 700k, 50 secs

Enough music for now. Time to make omelettes and sketch comics!

EDIT:
♫♪ funkysunday2.mp3 - 700k, 50 secs

Just added another instrument. It doesn't quite work yet, especially at the beginning, as it clashes in a few places and the melody is a bit haywire (and off key at times), but for the most part I like where this track is going. C+C please!

practice-music the revenge!
RCT Panda Attack

So, my practice piece of music was pretty shitty, it seemed. Not just piercingly chiptune, but lacklustre as a melody. Just a few hours ago I had written off the tune as bad, and was going to leave it alone.

However, over on the tigsource forums, someone decided to have a go at improving it for me, and I think he did a great job .

♫♪ here is the new version (not by me!)
I especially like the 'counter melody' bit at the end. Does anyone have any thoughts, critique or advice based on the new one?

So, though this tune isn't great, I think I might take another stab at it, but with GarageBand this time. Or I might just scrap it anyway. Either way, I'll see whether I'm able to produce something a bit more finished, using the suggestions I have been given to improve my tracks in future.

I spent lunchtime playing around with music composition. I would appreciate feedback as ever. This is just a 15 second melody, that falls apart at the end somewhat XD Oh yeah, this is a NES-style chip-tune instrument, so apologies if it is a little piercing. Please let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions.

EDIT: warning, is very loud for some reason!! D:
